Welcome to Essential Green

After just over a year of studying Essential Oils (EO) it's about time I start one of these things. :) For those of you who have asked me EO questions or if I have a Green Living Blog...its finally here. For those who are just discovering this blog you are probably wondering who this Hippy chick is anyway. For anyone who needs it, here is the brief story of the path I took in life to bring me "here".

I am a cloth diapering (CD), Babywearing (BW), Attachement Parenting (AP), organic as possible and pretty all around "crunchy" momma. I haven't always been like this...but it seems that having my two children has brought me to here. And it was the pregnancy and birth of my second child, my daughter, that showed me the power of Essential Oils (EOs).

In August of 2005 I was injured in a strange work accident. I was bending over to pick something up and when I stood up my co-manager had opened up a drawer and i stood up into that drawer, taking the lower corner (a lot like one of the newer sharp edge laminate kitchen drawers) right in the small of my back. I didn't know it at the time but what seemed as an annoying, and albeit painful, jab turned into a much bigger problem. Over the next year I had test after test, did physical therapy, chiropractic and so much more...only to find that I needed surgery. In the end the first surgery didn't work and at the nice young age of 31 I got to have my first low back spinal fusion. Really not a lot of fun and the year long recovery wasn't great either. But you do what you gotta do, right?

Then in the Fall of 2007 I got pregnant with our beautiful daughter. She was a bit of a surprise because I was still in the last part of my recovery from my fusion. I immediately stopped all pain medication (by that time it wasn't much but I wasn't taking any chances) and talked to my chiropractor about what we could do to control any back pain that might come up...because having had my son in 2003 I knew full well that back pain went right along with being pregnant. She was great and we came up with a plan and it was working pretty well.

Until Janurary of 2008. I was far enough along that the pain was getting pretty bad. I was carrying right over my fusion site and I was at the chiro at least two times a week. I could barely walk and spent much of my time in bed, unable to move without severe pain. To make matters worse my chiropractor then threw HER back out! What a matched pair we were. We joke about it now but back then we were both a mess.

I have often said that everything happens for a reason and this situation is no different. Because my chiropractor (Dr. Patricia Lawlor with Holly House Center for Integrated Health Care) had a friend who had been telling her about the wonders of Essential Oils for year. Pat just wasn't ready to hear it until then. Her friend Carol showed up with her arsenal of oils as I call it and treated Dr. Pat with what is called the Raindrop Technique. Dr. Pat was amazed at how they worked...and she couldn't wait until she was better enough to share this with me.

And she did. We started the EO treatments on me right away and to say I was shocked was a bit of an understatement. If someone had told me 5 years ago that I would use Essential Oils to treat back pain I would have told them they were sniffing too many EOs them self. But they work. It's that simple. And those EOs, applied directly to my low back numerous times throughout the day were able to keep me from having to take any kind of pain medication for my back until I was 32 weeks pregnant...and that alone was a miracle.

Dr. Pat and her friend Carol became my mentors in learning about Essential Oils. I began learning and reading and researching the use of therapeutic grade EOs and was fascinated to hear of their rich history dating back to the biblical times and to the new advances that are being made in the cultivation and making of those same and the new precious oils that are happening every day. I have thankfully been able to share this new found knowledge and passion and decided to start this blog to help keep everything organized and easily accessible to anyone who needs it and wants it. I hope it helps you in some way and thank you for finding us and taking the time to read this far.
